Driveway Extension and Resurfacing to Create Additional Parking
Projects
Creating more practical parking space is one of the most common reasons homeowners choose to extend or resurface their driveway. For this project, Henson Surfacing was asked to improve an existing driveway and create additional parking by extending the usable area at the front of the property.
The result is a clean, durable and attractive driveway that not only provides more space for vehicles, but also complements the character of the home.
Preparing the Area
To begin the project, the existing driveway was removed, along with the slabs in front of the house and part of the front garden. This allowed the area to be opened up and properly prepared for both the new and existing parking space.
Correct preparation is essential for any driveway project. A strong foundation helps ensure the finished surface remains stable, practical and long-lasting.
Once the area had been cleared, it was excavated to the required depth before Bristol hardstone was laid to provide a solid base for the driveway. This created a reliable foundation across the full parking area, ready for the new surface to be installed.

Choosing the Right Edging
As part of the project, a selection of edging options was offered to help achieve the right finish for the property. Natural Cotswold setts were chosen, providing a traditional and attractive edge that works beautifully with the style of the home.
Edging is an important detail in any driveway installation. Not only does it help define the shape of the driveway, but it also adds structure and creates a more polished final appearance.
The Cotswold setts gave this driveway a characterful finish while helping the new parking area sit naturally within its surroundings.
A Durable Tarmac Finish
To complete the driveway, a 20mm base layer of tarmac was applied to a depth of 60mm, creating a strong and practical surface suitable for regular vehicle use.
This was then finished with a 6mm closed surface tarmac, giving the driveway a smooth, neat and durable final appearance.
Tarmac remains a popular choice for both domestic and commercial surfacing projects thanks to its strength, practicality and smart finish. When installed correctly on a well-prepared base, it provides a hard-wearing surface that is ideal for driveways, parking areas, access roads and commercial spaces.
